25. Pulpit

The pulpit occupies the central position and is both commodious and commanding. It’s elevated situation helps to carry the view of the preacher through the building.

On the rostrum in front of the pulpit can be seen the Baptismal Font on the left, with the Communion Table in the middle and the Lectern on the right. This is in accord with the traditions of the Churches of the Reformed Order whereby the furniture of the proclamation of the Word and the administration of the Sacraments are clearly visible for the worshipper.

The pulpit, rostrum and communion table areas, and the choir stalls are all beautifully defined in red cedar woodwork and refurbished in 1976.

It was at this time that the text on the arch above the pulpit was changed from

“GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, AND ON EARTH, PLEACE, GOODWILL TOWARD MEN”

to

“COME LET US WORSHIP AND BOW DOWN BEFORE THE LORD OUR MAKER”
